Description

The Mercantile Library in St. Louis is a historic institution that has played a significant role in the cultural and intellectual life of the city for over 170 years. It was founded in 1846 by a group of prominent St. Louis businessmen and professionals who wanted to establish a library that would support the intellectual and educational needs of the city’s growing population. The library’s name, “Mercantile,” reflects its origins in the mercantile and business community of St. Louis.

Join us for a docent led tour, by Julie Dunn-Morton, Curator of Fine Art Collections of The Mercantile Library. During the tour we will learn the story of St. Louis’s oldest library’s history and founding, our current program of exhibitions, and have a first look at the renovation of a new gallery for Missouri art.
