Description
More Colonial troops died on ships than on land. Sea power determined whether the Colonies would gain their independence or not. Doug Schneider will show how the British, Americans, and French conducted the Revolutionary War at sea. (Doug will talk about the 3 cannons in a St. Louis park that came from a British frigate that bombarded Charleston, South Carolina, in 1776.) Doug will also talk about a tiny island (smaller than Kirkwood, Missouri) that was pivotal in our defeat of the British. And you will learn about the beginnings of submarine warfare and find out how John Paul Jones apologized to the British after the Revolutionary War.
