Description

Battles have taken place inside the city of St. Louis during the American Revolution and during the Civil War. We have the oldest operating military institution west of the Mississippi. We even had a Missouri State Navy at one time! The United States military still has a presence in St. Louis, such as the Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force. For example, the Army Corps of Engineers has archeologists on staff; promotes bird migration; maintains a library downtown and has built a very nice museum along the Mississippi. The fastest combat ship in the United State Navy is named after St. Louis and more. This talk is about the presence of the military and how it has affected St. Louis.
