Contemporary Issues: The Manhattan Project and Radioactive Waste in our Community
Karen Nickel and Dawn Chapman, co-founders of Just Moms STL, have worked for over ten years educating the community about the dangers of leftover radioactive waste from making the atomic bombs during the Manhattan Project. This waste was left in and around the St. Louis and St. Charles areas. Nickel and Chapman are dedicated to holding our federal government accountable for the irrefutable harm caused to thousands of families by allowing this waste to poison people through seepage into our water, soil, and air for decades.
