Description
Join instructor Douglas Schneider for a discussion about incarceration in Missouri throughout history. We will cover a caballero, military prisons, a revolving jail, Civil War prisons, one-person jails, abandoned prisons, numerous jail museums, gallows, and a hanging barn. Did you know you could buy your own jail at one point in time in Missouri? We also discuss the 47 bloodiest acres in America and learn about a Missouri jail where a religious leader received revelations. You will hear about the tornado that blew the roof off a jail and blew away the two-foot-thick walls—but the inmates survived with only minor injuries. Some modern-day prisons organize Shakespeare’s plays, and some use inmates to train rescue dogs to make the dogs adoptable.
