Description

Learn about the upcoming exhibition that Dr. Judith Mann, Curator of European Art to 1800s, and Andrea Miller have been vigorously working on for the past 7 years. Paintings on Stone: Science and the Sacred 1530-1800 examines a fascinating tradition long overlooked by art historians—stone surfaces used to create stunning portraits, mythological scenes, and sacred images. This exhibition reveals the beauty of these works and examines the complexity of using materials such as slate, marble, alabaster, lapis lazuli, and amethyst. Unfortunately, our tour of the Saint Louis Art Museum exhibition, led by Andrea Miller has been postponed and will be rescheduled as soon as the Art Museum resumes in person tours.
